In 1992 Will.i.Am and apl.de.ap started rapping as the Atban Klann and signed to Ruthless Records where they made an appearance on Eazy-E's "Merry MuthaFuckin Xmas" single. Years passed, and the Atban Klann disbanded after their album never saw the light of day. Will.i.Am and apl.de.ap linked up with Taboo and reformed as Black Eyed Peas and would release their debut album via Interscope in 1998. Their original style was more akin to jazzy underground hip-hop acts that emerged in the mid to late 90s.
