PRESSED ON RANDOM RECYCLED VINYL
The collaboration between Dennis Brown and Errol ‘Flabba’ Holt continued to yield exceptional results. Among all the producers Brown worked with throughout the ’90s, Holt stands out as perhaps the most attuned to his sound. While Blood Brothers, where Brown teamed with Gregory Isaacs, was a strong effort, Holt had to balance Isaacs’s style alongside Brown’s. On this album, however, Holt’s full focus is on Brown alone, producing truly remarkable work.
Supported by Holt’s Roots Radics and featuring guest spots from bassist Leroy Sibbles and drummer Sly Dunbar, the record blends modern digital rhythms with the lush, full-bodied sound the Radics are known for. Drawing deep from Jamaica’s musical heritage, the band resurrects classic roots rhythms, pays homage to the soulful melodies of the rocksteady era, and even ventures beyond the islands to reinterpret American pop influences.
