"New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh" skips the politics and injustice at the heart of so many of Badu's recordings. This time she brings in lush live instrumentation for an even warmer sound. Who'd have thought she'd go for a Theremin, among other instruments? Yet, this is a playful album full of whimsy in both its lyrics and music. It isn't as if Erykah has lost her touch so much as she has gotten in touch with her inner muse.
